Treating anxiety with prescription medications is common. However, prescription medication is not your only option. One of the easiest things you can incorporate in your daily routine to control your anxiety is exercise. This does not have to be strenuous exercise. A 20-minute brisk walk daily will do the trick. Exercise releases endorphins, your brains neurotransmitters, which make you feel good. The daily practice also reduces stress, which will help you control your anxiety. Acupuncture is another excellent treatment for anxiety.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes there is a correlation between the health of the mind and the health of the body. Because of this belief acupuncture treatments not only treat the body’s physical symptoms but also address psychological and emotional problems that are a result of anxiety. Meditation and Yoga are also great ways to help control anxiety. The benefits of regular yoga and meditation practice are known to include the reduction of stress, tension, anxiety, and frustration.

Dieting is also another way in which you can control your anxiety. Caffeine should be limited and if possible eliminated. Eat small frequent meals throughout the day, to keep blood sugar levels stable. Alcohol should avoid or limited. Increase the amount of tryptophan in your diet. Tryptophan can found in foods such as; turkey, chicken, beef, brown rice, nuts, fish, milk, eggs, cheese, and fish.

Get a pet. Pets generally tend to make people happy. Contact with your pet such as petting and brushing has a very calming effect. Playing with your pet also helps with anxiety. Animals give unconditional love and sometimes having that love can turn a bad day completely around.

If you suffer from anxiety prescription medication does not have to be your only answer. If you feel that may be your only option see a doctor to discuss a therapy that will work for you.
